Microsoft DigiGirlz 2018 – Auckland – 19 May 2018

What

Microsoft is partnering with AUT to host DigiGirlz. It is an one day event aimed to inspire the next generation of girls to be part of our tech future. We have hands on robotics workshops with OMGTech!, HoloLens experiences and a range of speakers to showcase that technology spans a variety of careers beyond coding and engineering.

DigiGirlz is designed for female students aged 13 – 17 years to:

Get inspired by women and men who made a difference in their fields; Get excited by the jobs of tomorrow related to STEM.

DigiGirlz aims to target this issue by providing hands-on activities to get girls excited about the tech industry. This event will shine a spotlight on careers that involve tech but relate to areas our students are passionate about. Furthermore, the event is about creating a platform for girls to find role models in women who are succeeding in the tech industry, from within Microsoft and from external speakers and panelists. DigiGirlz is an opportunity to make these role models more accessible and their stories more well known. Girls will have the opportunity to converse with them and be inspired by their journeys

ShadowTech Day – Palmerston North – 25 May 2018

What

ShadowTech provides girls in years 9 -11 with an opportunity to experience what working in the tech sector is like, encouraging them onto education pathways that lead into tech sector roles.

The programme connects girls at school with women mentors working in the tech sector, and students spend the day with them at their workplace, learning about the diverse range of jobs available within ICT.

Our objective is to see an increase in the number of girls who choose STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) related subjects at a secondary and tertiary level, and ultimately choose a career in technology.
