Hurry hurry, calling all mah jong players – there are only 3 weeks left for you to register for our terrific TransTasman tournament here in Upper Hutt, October 15-19 2018.

For only $120 you can play four mornings, experience a Meet and Greet on the Sunday evening, and a lavish lunch for the prize giving on Friday; there are also extras you can book for – some wonderful side trips, including a Mystery Trip; a chance to sample some of Brewtown’s (our new name) award winning craft beers; and a full day out around our lovely region.

A further chance to contribute to the Cyber Security Strategy refresh

We need your input.The National Cyber Policy Office has developed a strawman Cyber Security Strategy. We invite Connect Smart partners and members of the public to give us feedback on the strawman strategy.

The strawman is the result of feedback on New Zealand’s cyber security settings from earlier public workshops and stakeholder engagement. You can see the outputs from the workshops here.

The vision in the strawman strategy is to make New Zealand secure and confident in a digital world. It has four values that reflect what is important for building the online environment New Zealand needs:

Partnerships are Essential	People are secure online
Economic growth is enabled	National security is upheld

The strawman strategy includes six priority areas. These priority areas reflect what we have heard through our outreach and engagement about where we need to collectively intensify our efforts

Cyber security aware and active citizens
Strong and capable cyber security workforce
Resilient and responsive NZ
Internationally active
Proactively tackle cybercrime
Adapt and challenge

To help collate the feedback, we have produced a feedback worksheet that can be found here. If you want to contribute, please download the worksheet, put down your views, and email it to connectsmart@dpmc.govt.nz.

The NCPO will also be holding discussion sessions during the week of 27 August in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.

Open Bank Project Workshop with Ismail Chaib – Auckland – 27 June 2018

What

An interactive workshop on day two of the Point 2018 conference with one of the international speakers, Ismail Chaib. Ismail is the COO of TESOBE, the Berlin-based company which leads the Open Bank Project. The workshop is designed for API practitioners and is open to anyone interested in how to design and implement a successful open API programme.

Ismail Chaib, COO of TESOBE, the Berlin-based company which leads the Open Bank Project, will use the experiences and technical framework of the Open Bank Project to explore open banking APIs.

He will discuss what makes a good open platform architecture, which APIs to open, how to design and build RESTful APIs that developers like to use, and how to attract the best and brightest to your platform. Using real world case studies, Ismail will share insights into defining, designing and implementing successful API programmes.

The workshop will end with an extended Q&A session where you will get the chance to directly interact with Ismail. Technical and business questions are welcome.

The Open Bank Project enables banks to offer an ecosystem of third-party apps and services to their customers through open source API technology and a community of over 8,000 fintech developers.

With over five years’ experience in open banking, Ismail brings a wealth of knowledge on what makes a successful banking API. He will also be speaking at the conference on day one in the future connections breakout stream, where he will share his vision of an open banking future and talk about what that could look like in a New Zealand context.

Roxanne Salton, Head of digital strategy & delivery for Mercury, will discuss the sustainability of emerging technologies

James Wells, CIO, Vulcan steel, is here to talk playing it safe with the use of vision intelligence to ensure workplace safety. This is a project that was started at Datacomp in 2017.
