Out West Model Expo – Auckland – 17-18 November 2018

What

The Auckland Marklin Club presents a model expo for enthusiasts and all the family.

There will be 16 model train layouts from clubs throughout the region and from as far south as Bulls, making it the biggest train show in Auckland this year. Some layouts will be huge, spanning many metres and passing specially built scenes. The locomotives in operation range in size from a few centimetres to half a metre, reproducing the greatest machines of the world’s railways. Others will be small and intimate, table top size, with lots of fine detail. Children will be able to operate a table top train to see how it’s done.

Other types of modelling will be represented. The Auckland Meccano Guild will have a display. Mini-4WD vehicles will race in threes around a large circuit.

Trade stands will be there to supply modelling materials and enable any one to get started in their hobby. The Helensville Railway Museum will have a display.

Refreshments will be provided by Love Soup, with proceeds helping its charitable work in providing meals at community centres.

Pedestrian entry to the venue is from Te Atatu Road or from the carpark at the rear of the Centre. To get to the carpark, turn from Te Atatu Rd into Harbour View Rd at the roundabout, then take the first right into Sail Rock Rd.

Payment by EFTPOS or credit card will be accepted as well as cash.

You may have already been to one of our shows held at Waiuku, Devonport, Whangaparaoa and Westgate. This will be by far our biggest show yet.

Social Enterprise Unconference – Levin – 15 – 17 February 2019

What

PledgeMe has teamed up with Thankyou Payroll to deliver Aotearoa New Zealand’s first unconference focussed on social enterprise. The event was created to support growing and scaling social enterprises to help each other and build a network for them to grow their impact together.

We know how tiring it is to balance social impact and financial value creation, so we think by learning from each other, we can make this journey a little less lonely and little bit easier.

What is an Unconference? It’s a weekend long residential event that’s more about having awesome people in the room rather than watching speakers on a stage. The agenda is set on the first night by the attendees, where you decide what you want to share and discuss over the weekend, and the event is all about you meeting, connecting, sharing, and learning.

The Social Enterprise Unconference 2019 will be for the people behind social enterprises that have been trading for a few years that want support to take their business to the next level. Off the back of a busy year for everyone, we are excited to get a group together to discuss what’s next for the sector, learn from each other, and hopefully realise we’re not in this alone.

We’re aiming to have a diverse group of attendees that represent the broad spectrum of social enterprise in Aotearoa. To ensure that everyone has the time and space to have meaningful interactions, the number of attendees will be capped at 100. Because we’re limited on space, but know that we all benefit from the strength of a diverse group, we will be selecting attendees based on a range of criteria, however if we have more applicants than spots, we will give preference to those who get their registration form sent in quickly.

Maker Faire is a gathering of fascinating, curious people who enjoy learning and who love sharing what they can do. From engineers to artists to scientists to crafters, Maker Faire is a venue for these “makers” to show hobbies, experiments, projects.

We call it the Greatest Show (& Tell) on Earth – a family-friendly showcase of invention, creativity, and resourcefulness.

For 21 years we have provided creative experiences to the youngest citizens of Wellington that include theatre, digital technology, and immersive, never-seen-before installations and events that spark and encourage creative thinking and expression. To bring these experiences to life, our creative team work with talented Makers from Wellington and beyond, constructing wild creations that invite children to explore their imaginations.

The inaugural Wellington Maker Faire is a celebration and showcase of the innovative, do-it-yourself work of the Maker community. This fun, family-friendly event is for Makers both young and young at heart, whether you’re a hobbyist, inventor, creator, tech-enthusiast, educator, performer, or crafter, you’ll enjoy experiencing the variety of maker-achievements on display at Wellington Maker Faire.

Who are Makers?

A Maker is anyone who creates, invents, tinkers, or constructs with anything, code, technology, or traditional craft materials, in labs, garages, or home kitchens. Makers are everywhere!

Maker Faire originated in 2006 in the San Francisco Bay Area as a project of the editors of Make: magazine.  It has since grown into a significant worldwide network of both flagship and independently-produced events.  Read more on Maker Faire history, the Maker Movement, as well as how to start a Maker Faire or a School Maker Faire where you live.

2018 Dollhouses & Miniature Show & Sale – Palmerston North – 20 – 22 October 2018

What

Members of Miniature Clubs all over New Zealand bring their work together every 2 years and show it off. Doll Houses, Miniature items, Room Boxes.

The fascination of miniatures lies in viewing life made small. Most of the displays are in 12th scale ( 1 inch – 1 foot) but some are even smaller. We have a lot of talented miniaturists in this country and this is a chance to view their work altogether.

There is a completed doll house, which has been donated and worked on in a voluntary way, by members of the Lower Hutt and Kapiti Miniature Clubs. This is being raffled over the weekend. The exhibition is a large one and well worth the visit. The venue has a cafe on site and good parking and wheelchair access.

There are also sales tables of miniature items or tools if you want to get started on an absorbing hobby.

This event is hosted by the Lower Hutt Miniature Makers and the Palmerston North Miniaturists. The Lower Hutt Miniature Makers meet every third Saturday of the month. It is around 45 members strong.

They usually work on a workshop put together by one of the members. It could be making an item of furniture or small items to go into their small houses. It is a chance not only to meet with friends, but to learn new skills.

There are miniature clubs all over New Zealand. If you are interested please contact NZAME, the parent of all the clubs to find a club near you.
