This September we commemorate and celebrate 125 years of women’s suffrage in New Zealand. Events include a look at how far we’ve really come (125 Years: Are We There Yet?, chaired by Kim Hill), readings and discussions on women’s bodies (The Body Issue, Sonya Renee Taylor: The Body is Not an Apology), an Adventurous Women event, and the Margaret Mahy Memorial Lecture from Barbara Else, author of Go Girl.

The New Zealand Game Developers Conference (NZGDC) is an annual professional game development conference hosted in Auckland, New Zealand. NZGDC18 will be an action-packed three-day conference for professional and indie game developers.

This year’s conference will span three days with one day dedicated to hands-on workshops (1st August), and two days full of a mix of presentations and panels (2nd-3rd August). Sessions will cover a variety of topics, from Art & Game Design to Production & Marketing and everything in between.

Open Bank Project Workshop with Ismail Chaib – Auckland – 27 June 2018

What

An interactive workshop on day two of the Point 2018 conference with one of the international speakers, Ismail Chaib. Ismail is the COO of TESOBE, the Berlin-based company which leads the Open Bank Project. The workshop is designed for API practitioners and is open to anyone interested in how to design and implement a successful open API programme.

Ismail Chaib, COO of TESOBE, the Berlin-based company which leads the Open Bank Project, will use the experiences and technical framework of the Open Bank Project to explore open banking APIs.

He will discuss what makes a good open platform architecture, which APIs to open, how to design and build RESTful APIs that developers like to use, and how to attract the best and brightest to your platform. Using real world case studies, Ismail will share insights into defining, designing and implementing successful API programmes.

The workshop will end with an extended Q&A session where you will get the chance to directly interact with Ismail. Technical and business questions are welcome.

The Open Bank Project enables banks to offer an ecosystem of third-party apps and services to their customers through open source API technology and a community of over 8,000 fintech developers.

With over five years’ experience in open banking, Ismail brings a wealth of knowledge on what makes a successful banking API. He will also be speaking at the conference on day one in the future connections breakout stream, where he will share his vision of an open banking future and talk about what that could look like in a New Zealand context.

The third Astrobiology Australasia Meeting (AAM), a joint meeting of the New Zealand Astrobiology Network and the Australian Centre for Astrobiology (at UNSW Sydney, Australia).

This meeting will be held on 25-29 June 2018 in Rotorua, New Zealand. It will be preceded by a one-day astrobiology teachers workshop on the 24th of June, and followed by associated field trips through the hot springs of the Rotorua area on the 26-27 June.

New Zealand Bird Conference – Waitangi – 2-4 June 2018

The 2018 New Zealand Bird Conference and the 79th Annual General Meeting of Birds New Zealand will be held in Paihia Northland during 2-4th June 2018 (Queens Birthday Weekend). We look forward to welcoming you to the sunny Far North for what should be a fantastic weekend of birds and birding.

The conference will comprise two days of scientific papers and workshops,with field trips to local birding highlights on the third day. The AGM will be held on Saturday afternoon.

The conference again aims to continue the fine work of previous conferences in making this the premier New Zealand event for the communication of new research findings on New Zealand birds while providing opportunity for discussion, networking and workshops for bird researchers and birders in New Zealand.

The format of the conference will be similar to the most recent conferences, with the first two days largely being devoted to scientific presentations. A variety of workshops are planned for the Sunday morning.

As in previous years we look forward having a number of local speakers sharing some of the latest research knowledge with you. Alongside this we look forward to bringing together researchers and Society Members from across the country to share their knowledge and findings to make for a dynamic and informative event.
