WITcon 2019 – Wellington – 21 August 2019

What

VUWWIT (Victoria University of Wellington Women in Tech) exists to create a space for women and gender diverse voices in STEM. We connect students to industry by running networking events and sharing job and internship opportunities. We also organise social events to build our community.

WITcon is a one-day student-led tech conference that brings students and industry together to discuss social and technical topics relating to STEM (Science, Tech, Engineering, Maths).

This conference was designed to give something to everyone. Anyone working in or around tech will have something to gain from WITcon, whether they are a developer, human resources person, student, tech enthusiast, lecturer, biologist, manager, data scientist, engineer, chemist, gamer, or intern.

WITcon is a great opportunity to hear and learn from interesting speakers and panellists, meet other people in the community, and enjoy a yummy lunch.

Tip: the lunch break and end-of-event drinks are the best time for students to approach industry to discuss available internships and grad roles, and vice versa!

NetHui brings everybody and anybody that wants to talk about the Internet together. It’s not a conference or a BarCamp, and speakers don’t talk at you all day. It is instead about discussing and exploring possibilities, ideas and challenges, together.

NetHui is made for the community, with the community. It’s designed by the people who want to go. InternetNZ wants to hear what it is that matters to you and what you want to talk about – and then we help to pull it all together.

Converging Realities is a one-day jam-packed event that is focused around celebrating Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR) and Mixed Reality (MR) technology.

With Facebook, Google, Apple and Amazon investing millions, it is no doubt that VR, AR and mixed realities are the future. Yet what does that look like today, and in Wellington? How is the technology be used, and what is it being used for?

Join some of Wellington’s leading innovators and pioneers for a series of lightning talks, as they speak about how mixed reality, VR and AR technology is pushing and enabling them in their own practices. From architecture to education, to game-design and the arts, come explore what the future will look like in the next 20 years.

Also on show at the event will be our public exhibition demo area. Running throughout the day, come try some of the most amazing VR, AR and MR content out there!  Attendees will have a chance to try out the demos either before or after the event.

The IDEAS Festival is a fun day of learning and exploration through self-selected interactive sessions in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts & Maths (STEAM). ​

We partner with local tertiary institutions to give students access to a campus with world class facilities for thrilling sessions and learning outside the classroom.

The event inspires future generations by providing high-quality workshops that challenge, excite, and spark ideas. These hands-on, state of the art experiences are led by enthusiastic experts and offer students the opportunity to examine the concepts that challenge and shape their futures.
